Bubble tea is a 21st century phenomenon that’s exploded in popularity, especially given Vancouver’s prominent Asian community. It’s sweet, thick and frothy like a milkshake, and the tapioca pearls add a perfect textural touch. Grab a bubble tea at any of these cafes for just the right kind of pick-me-up.

The interior is intimate yet airy, with warm décor and potted plants to make it feel like a second home. If it’s your first time or you’re new to bubble tea, arrive during off-peak hours so you can take your time and ask the staff questions. Otherwise, keep a sharp eye on the board and have your drink order and money (they’re cash-only) ready by the time you reach the counter.

Laxcifa International Trading Inc

Open seven days a week until 11 pm, it’s the perfect place to experiment with all sorts of crazy bubble tea ideas, like ordering a bubble tea float. But if you want to stick to the more traditional, opt for the taro milk bubble tea. It’s made with real tea and perfect bubbles — the only problem you’ll have is stopping yourself from going back for thirds. Top things off with Belgian waffles and matcha ice cream.

It’s Taiwanese food with a Vancouver twist, which you’ll see when you sit down and order a mini hotpot (spicy beef with sour cabbage is amazing) and bubble tea in the same meal. There are five different kinds of bubble tea, from winter melon, ice cream and coffee for warm weather and brown sugar to wheat germ, almond and sesame, perfect for gorgeous autumn days. This place is incredibly popular, so set aside some time for lineups during peak hours.

On a cold, snowy Edmonton night, nothing says lovin’ like a cup of hot chocolate. It’s no surprise this drink was originally dubbed the “elixir of the gods.” Regardless of the variety you select, or whether you opt for the simplest hot chocolate on the menu, all I can say is ... don’t forget the marshmallows.
